From the Green Room Feature Band: Little King

Thanks for taking some time to chat with From the Green Room

1. What’s the name of the band?

Good morning from Tucson, AZ. This is Ryan Rosoff, singer/songwriter/guitarist for the band Little King. We’ve been making music since 1997, and the new single “Silver Tongue,” is available on 3/25 worldwide. It’s a celebration of 25 years of releases…I think it’s quite a good period at the end of a very long run-on sentence.

2. Where are you from?

I grew up in Seattle in the 1980’s, but all of the music we’ve made since the first album, Transmountain (1997), has been recorded in El Paso, Texas. So, the short answer is almost always El Paso.

I’ve moved around a lot, but our home studio is at Eddy Garcia’s place in EP. He is also the engineer and drummer for Little King. In addition, most of the musicians throughout the years who’ve appeared on our albums are El Pasoans. It’s not the biggest city, but man is the musical history and talent rich. At The Drive In (then Mars Volta and Sparta), Pissing Razors, Khaled, all the way back to Bobby Fuller…the city stacks up pretty well in the grand scheme of American Music.

The unique part of playing and recording in El Paso is that the proximity to the US/Mexican border is a huge influence on the players. Stylistically, there’s always been a great hardcore scene, and there’s also that Latin feel to a lot of music. That combo is pretty fun to work with, and while I wouldn’t ever classify Little King as Latin Rock, the undercurrent is definitely there.

3. What type of music do you play?

Shoot…you tell me! I like the term “dynamic rock,” as I know we go from pretty damn heavy to quite moody and mellow…sometimes in one song. The new song, “Silver Tongue,” has all of that and more. Because it is a celebration of our history as a push into the NEXT 25 years, I wanted to throw the whole kitchen sink in. And so we did, and the track is about 6 plus minutes long. I’m cool with that…so much to say!

Sometime ago, we were classified as Prog Rock, but the Prog community was kind of like “Ehhhhh…maybe not.” There are a ton of time sigs that hopefully flow well together, and it’s thematic and heavy. If you can’t find something in the new song that speaks to you, then perhaps we aren’t your favorite band! But I am pleased, and I think the almost-prog fanbase will rock out to it.

4. Introduce yourselves to the readers and tell us what you do in the band?

As I said, I’m Ryan, and I play guitar and sing. I’ve also written and produced all of Little King’s music (the name “Little King” is actually a Gaelic translation of “Ryan.”)

Manny Tejeda from Delaware by way of the Dominican Republic is on the bass for the new track, and he’s also played on the last two record, Occam’s Foil and Amuse De Q. The aforementioned Eddy Razor Garcia is the drummer, and he’s been the studio drummer since 2007.

5. This is probably a common question but one that most want to know, what musical

influences did you have growing up, and what are some now?

While it IS a common question, the answer is no less complicated than it was the first time I was asked!

We all grew up in different places and eras, a bit, although Eddy and I are closer in age and Manny is bringing up the rear. Ed and I both love Rush, Zeppelin, ACDC, and the older metal from the 80’s. Ed is in a Texas thrash band called Pissing Razors, and his influences probably run a bit “heavier” than mine. Manny is a 90’s kid, so he loves Deftones, Korn, etc. Pretty diverse, honestly, and you add in their Latin music roots, and you get a kind of weird hybrid of styles and influences.

I do love hip-hop, especially from the West Coast 90’s era. Also a huge fan of reggae, particularly Peter Tosh. Also recently listening to stuff like Don Shirley (the protagonist from the move “Green Book,”) Scott Walker, John Mellencamp, the Grateful Dead, Tool, and more. So much more…

6. Have you always been into music? Was it something that just came to you

naturally?

I was lucky to grow up on the world’s greatest rock station, KISW, 99.9 FM in Seattle. Man…I cannot tell you how much that influenced my neighborhood back in the 80’s. They had some great DJ’s like Steve Slaton and Bo Roberts who played weird stuff like Billy Thorpe and longer Rush tracks. Rock music was front and center, but no one really played in my family. My bro was a huge influence, too, though. He did play clarinet and then bass guitar, and I stole a ton of his records and had stereo wars with him in our house all the time. Poor mom and dad.

I heard “Xanadu” at about age 11, and then “Eruption” and “Run to the Hills” as well, and I was hooked. I NEEDED to know how to do that! So mom bought me a beat up old Takamine electric, and then my dad got a Washburn acoustic (which I still use) in about 1988. Slowly but surely, I started to learn chords and taugh myself some scales. Still hooked here in 2023!

7. What can we expect from the band in the rest of 2022 and beyond into 2023?

As I said, the new single “Silver Tongue” comes out on 3/25. “Silver Tongue” is the triumphant culmination of 25+ years of Little King releases. This single is a celebration of our history with a bone-jarring right cross into the future. Moody, groovy, heavy, and complex, “Silver Tongue” stands as the quintessential LK opus.

The band is the same as I mentioned before, and the team is the same as we used for the last album:

Engineered by: Eddy Razor Garcia at Krank Studios in El Paso, TX,,,Mixed by: Daniel Salcido at Command Space Audio in Los Angeles, CA…Mastered by: Maor Appelbaum at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, California, USA

We also filmed our live shows from last September, so I am editing audio and video as we speak. Hoping to have a good chunk of the shows available as a live video release in the late-spring. Very exciting stuff, as we’ve not released a live album before. From there, we will tour October 7-15 throughout the western US, then we will see our fans in November on the east coast. Would love to hit Europe, too…will see how things go.

8. For someone who wants to know more about the band, were can they find you at?

And were can they find your music?

Thanks for asking! We have everything you need over at www.littlekingtunes.com or on fb/ig/twitter/YouTube @littlekingtunes.  All of our albums are available to stream on Apple Music, and the most recent stuff is also on Spotify etc. If you just search “Little King Silver Tongue,” you’ll find it. But yeah, the web site is a great place to get acquainted and learn more about what we’ve been grinding away on for a long time.

9. Let’s answer some fun questions, what is your all time favorite band?

Oh, I am a Rush geek for sure. Ed would say ACDC, I think, and Manny would probably say Deftones or Korn. You’ll have to ask them, though! Steely Dan and the Talking Heads also get honorable mention.

10. If you could tour with any band and open or have them open for you, who would

you choose?

Dave Grohl and I are of similar age and countenance, I think. Our music fits what he does, too. You know him? Have him holler. Would also love to open for Tool/A Perfect Circle, or maybe someone like Chevelle. Can’t really say too much more, but we will take it if it makes sense.

Thanks for chatting with me From the Green Room and look forward to chatting

again in the future.

Once again Plastic Baricades has hit it out of the park with the uplifting track that give you hope from listening to the lyrics “Counting Fireworks” celebrates new beginnings, the power of change and that growth potential is limitless for us.

The track has a video that accompanies it, as usual it has the “Plastic Baricades” touch to it as they once again do something that is different from the norm, in this case the video was shot in one take, without editing or cutting, and it still takes you on a bizarre trip of memories, dreams and visons of the future.

From the Green Room feature band: Tarah Who

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 43 Second

Thanks for taking some time to chat with From the Green Room

1. What’s the name of the band?

TGC: Tarah Who?

2. Where are you from?

TGC: Los Angeles,CA

3. What type of music do you play?

TGC: Rock, grunge, punk

4. Introduce yourselves to the readers and tell us what you do in the band?

TGC: I am Tarah, founder. I write all the songs. Live, I play the guitar and sing.

5. This is probably a common question but one that most want to know, what musical
influences did you have growing up, and what are some now?

TGC: I grew up listening to Alanis Morissette. Then I discovered The Distillers, Motörhead, tool, RATM, Hole, Joan Jett, etc… Today, I don’t listen to much new music. When I write, I like to keep my focus on the new songs and try to not be influenced actually by what’s happening.

6. Have you always been into music? Was it something that just came to you
naturally?

TGC: I am not sure how it started… When we were kids, my mom listened to a lot of Rock while cleaning the house. She would really BLAST The Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen etc.. Then I started listening to my own music, and we would spend evenings listening to what I had discovered or playing on my Walkman and Discman. We would just sit for hours playing music while we were lying down on the floor, feeling the vibrations of the bass and the drums etc.. I didn’t realize at the time the impact it has on me now. When I was 10 I remember getting the craving for the drums, I have always been drawn to the instrument, but that’s when my dad didn’t think it was an instrument for girls, even at school the music teacher would slightly smile when I said I actually would prefer to play the drums rather than the piccolo. When I turned 14, I started inquiring about drum lessons. The few teachers I spoke to didn’t take me seriously, so I started teaching myself. Same with the bass. I joined a couple of rock bands and that’s when it all started. At 15, I moved to the US and my English teacher wanted me to keep a journal to perfect my English. That is when I learned to express myself and write. It was very therapeutic. Some of those writings became songs, and I never stopped playing or writing…

I never really thought of music as a career. It just became that because I take it seriously, and It’s all I have, really. It was never a hobby. This I know. Music is an obsession that I take passionately,

7. What can we expect from the band in the rest of 2022 and beyond into 2023?

TGC: Since we are in 2023… We started the year opening for Life of Agony, Prong and Madball. Now we are gearing up again to go back on this UK tour, opening for Wednesday 13, Sick’n Beautiful and South of Salem. April 28, is the release of a new album called “The collaboration project” which I am super excited about. Right before that, I am releasing “Freshmeat Rockstars” which is a new single.

8. For someone who wants to know more about the band, were can they find you at?
And were can they find your music?

TGC: Everywhere! I think you can just google Tarah Who? and pick your poison. I am mostly active on instagram @ tarahwho , and on Youtube but we are on Spotify and all of those digital platforms we need to be on in this day and age. 🙂

9. Let’s answer some fun questions, what is your all time favorite band?

TGC: I don’t really have favorites anything… but let’s say… The Distillers.

10. If you could tour with any band and open or have them open for you, who would
you choose?

TGC: I would love to set up a tour with the bands I collaborated with on the new album. So those bands are: Yur Mum, Faul, Bala, Laura Chevalier, October Rain, Carissa Johnson.

Dinosaur, Theory’s eighth full-length, features their Top 10 Active Rock Radio hit “Dinosaur” and the singles “Ambulance” and “Two Of Us (Stuck)” and marks an overall return to form stylistically for the chart-topping Canadian quartet. Dinosaur is out now digitally and on CD with vinyl available July 28th – PRESS HERE to order.

“It never gets old I tell ya!” shares front man Tyler Connolly. “Our eighth album Dinosaur is out and we couldn’t be more excited for everyone to hear it in its entirety. Looking forward to playing some new tracks out on the road this year – it’s gonna be great!”

Dinosaur, the follow-up to 2020’s acclaimed album Say Nothing, was produced by Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, YUNGBLUD) and recorded in Sweden at Atlantis Studios, made famous by ABBA. The 10-track collection opens with the anthemic hard-hitting title track “Dinosaur,” which has amassed over 4 million total streams and been featured on various rock playlists across DSPs including Spotify’s Rock Rotation and Top of the Rock, Apple Music’s The New Rock and Breaking Rock, and Amazon Music’s Rock Arena and Fresh Rock. Showcasing Theory’s signature wit, recent single “Two Of Us (Stuck)” takes a hard left from the refrain of the Grover Washington, Jr. and Bill Withers classic “Just The Two Of Us” into a breezy piano-laden breakup bop, “Just the two of us…we couldn’t make it if we tried!” Elsewhere on the new album is the recklessly raucous and righteously catchy party song “Ambulance,” the gritty “Medusa (Stone)” and the aggressive “Get In Line.” Ultimately, Theory Of A Deadman is giving rock ‘n’ roll exactly what it needs once more delivering a barrage of rock anthems on Dinosaur. See below for full track listing.

Theory Of A Deadman — Tyler Connolly [lead vocals, guitar], Dave Brenner [guitar, backing vocals], Dean Back [bass], and Joey Dandeneau [drums, backing vocals] — is currently in the middle of their co-headlining Rock Resurrection Tour with Skillet and special guest Saint Asonia. The cross-country trek has been selling out night after night and receiving rave reviews, hailed as “an unforgettable night of phenomenal music,” with Sonic Perspectives pointing out: “Theory of a Deadman reminded [fans] that rock ‘n’ roll is not dead and their live show remains one big celebration.” The Rock Resurrection Tour continues tonight (March 17) in Kansas City and wraps March 26th in Los Angeles at The Wiltern. Theory will be out on the road all year supporting Dinosaur including a spring Canadian tour featuring a mix of headlining shows and dates opening for Disturbed, festival appearances, and a September run throughout the UK. See below for all upcoming tour dates and visit www.theoryofficial.com for more info and to purchase tickets.

With sky-high hooks, riffs as thick as a 2×4, rumbling grooves, and a razor-sharp sense of humor, Theory Of A Deadman have quietly persisted as an unapologetic, unbreakable, and undeniable hard rock force with major multi-platinum hits and countless sold out shows in each of the past two decades. Jamming together in basements throughout high school, the band burst out of their small hometown of North Delta, British Columbia with the self-titled, Theory of a Deadman, during 2002. In addition to the double-platinum breakthrough album Scars & Souvenirs [2008] and gold-certified The Truth Is… [2011], Theory have notched a procession of hits, including the gold-certified “All Or Nothing,” “Bitch Came Back,” and “Lowlife,” platinum-certified “Angel,” “Hate My Life,” and “Not Meant To Be,” double-platinum “Bad Girlfriend,” and triple-platinum “RX (Medicate).” As the biggest smash of their career thus far, the latter hit, off their 2017 album Wake Up Call, marked their third #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart and garnered a nomination for “Rock Song of the Year” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The award-winning band’s last studio album Say Nothing, featuring the chart-topping and powerful single “History of Violence,” landed at #2 on the Billboard Alternative Albums Chart and #3 on the Rock Albums Chart. Theory Of A Deadman’s impressive catalogue has also logged two Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 and amassed more than 1 billion collective streams on Spotify alone and over 700 million views on their official YouTube.

I PREVAIL DROP “DEEP END” VIDEO

EW ALBUM TRUE POWER OUT NOW VIA FEARLESS RECORDS

Platinum-certified and twice GRAMMY-nominated Michigan rock powerhouse I PREVAIL — Brian Burkheiser (vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals), Steve Menoian (guitars/bass), Dylan Bowman (guitars), and Gabe Helguera (drums) — released their monumental new record TRUE POWER via Fearless Records last year. It was followed by a sold out, two-leg tour across the U.S. and Canada.

Today, the band has shared the video for the new single “Deep End,” directed by Jensen Noen.

“Deep End” showcases I Prevail’s deftness with dynamics, vacillating between tempos and emotions before the final fadeout. The song’s message is as powerful as its melody, and that’s precisely why the song takes hold from start to finish.

“‘Deep End’ felt special from the day we wrote it,” the band says. “Being one of the most introspective tracks on the record, it became a reflection on an attempt to stop battling certain things about yourself and instead learning to accept them as a part of who you are. There’s a peace to be found in that. Overall, this track allowed us to evolve the softer side of our band and we’re incredibly proud of it.”

I Prevail, who are currently on a headline tour of the UK, will return to the road in the U.S. this spring, supporting Godsmack. All dates are below. The band will announce further tour plans soon so stay tuned.
