JOSIE LOCKHART ‘Every Kind of Light’ Release Date: October 18th

Ahead of the release of his sophomore album What Golden Hues, Josie Lockhart is set to unleash his first single ‘Every Kind of Light’ on October 18th, a foot stomping americana filled listen, that will grab your attention from the moment you hit play.

After Austin synth-pop group Sphynx went on hiatus in 2019, frontman Aaron Miller found himself adrift. “I had hundreds of songs on my hard drives in various stages of completion, all over the place,” Miller says. “So much of my identity was wrapped up in trying to be a successful musician that I started to wonder if it was healthy. I tried to put it down for a while.” Miller spent a few months working to remove the expectations he had set for himself and reconnect with the songwriting process. “I realised itʼs something I need for myself, I donʼt feel right unless Iʼm putting together an album in my head. Miller continued to tinker in his South Austin home studio and it wasnʼt long before he emerged with a sonic identity that blended his synth-pop background with the americana and twang he had grown up around.

Miller introduced his Josie Lockhart moniker with the 2021 release of Santa Rosa, mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Future Islands), the album went on to be featured on the BBC, NPR, American Songwriter, Obscure Sound and Fresh On The Net, as well as picking up radio-play in the US, UK, Australia, Spain, and Brazil. “Making Santa Rosa was a cathartic experience,” says Miller, who performed and recorded the album entirely by himself. “That album broke some kind of seal, and I just kept putting songs together.” Two months after the release of Santa Rosa, Miller holed up at his familyʼs home in Durango, Colorado and assembled a collection of 11 tracks for Josie Lockhartʼs sophomore album, What Golden Hues.

uns with it. The album features steel guitar, wurlitzer, and saxophone on a bed of analog synth; heartland rock with a modern spin. Millerʼs lyrics are earnest, and the melodies and harmonies soar. The upcoming album signifies a return to his roots. I wanted to draw from the well of music I grew up listening to, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Townes Van Zandt, Miller says. The playing is masterful and the production shines. Where Santa Rosa introduced an artist, What Golden Hues reveals a songwriter in his prime, an artist fully formed.

Josie wrote ‘Every Kind of Light’ and recorded the demo in his South Austin home studio. After that, he took it to Carey McGraw at Club Sound Machine Studios in Lockhart, TX and brought in session players from Austin and Nashville to help produce a studio version of the track. The new single offers a tasteful glimpse of What Golden Hues, promising an incredible new era for the hard-working artist.

When it comes to the specific meaning behind his addictive new single, Josie has channelled into an honest theme of fulfilment that comes with growing up: “This is a song about a feeling of contentment and understanding that comes as you become an adult. After searching and feeling like you’re falling short of your goals in your 20s, I’ve found some peace with my station in life as a dad in my 30s, and a great deal of gratitude. I needed that wanderlust to get here though.”

Interview with Replise by Movement

Thanks for taking some time to chat with From the Green Room

1. What’s the name of the band?
KEVIN: MOVMENT
MARTIN: Our previous band was called Raw Novembre

2. Where are you from?
KEVIN: We are brothers, and we’re from Mullingar, a small town in the middle of
Ireland
MARTIN: We have lived in Mullingar all our lives, and this is where we write and
record our music, in our home studio, End of Light Studios.

3. What type of music do you play?

KEVIN: It could be post-punk, but it has metal and rock elements to it. It is also
darkwave and electronic. A mixture of those genres.
MARTIN: I like to call it rock, but that is very broad these days. The core parts of our
sound are drums, bass and distorted guitars, but we also add synths for atmosphere.

4. Introduce yourselves to the readers and tell us what you do in the band?
KEVIN: I play guitar, and experiment with synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers
MARTIN: I am the vocalist, but I started on drums, so I write and record the drum parts.

5. This is probably a common question but one that most want to know, what musical
influences did you have growing up, and what are some now?

KEVIN: The first band I got into was Joy Division, but I also listen to a broad range of
music from metal to country rock. If it has something I connect with, then I’ll listen some more. Other bands I like are Pixies, Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Wipers,
Bauhaus, and lots more. New bands I like are Turnstile and Fontaines DC.

MARTIN: The first bands I listened to were Iron Maiden and Van Halen. Over the years
I have broadened the music I listen to. I like Nine Inch Nails, Ghost, New Model Army,
and lots of other bands. I currently like Ghost and Lord of the Lost.

6. Have you always been into music? Was it something that just came to you
naturally?

KEVIN: Since I was a teenager, I always had an interest in music, especially rock music.
My musical taste developed in my teens, but I now listen to a wide variety of genres. So,
I could be listening to Rammstein, or Metallica, but also Grandaddy and Sparklehorse, or
The Chemical Brothers.

MARTIN: I was singing from my early teens, but I always liked the drums. So, I bought
a kit and played in a few bands. Once Kevin got a bass, we started a band with lots of
different musicians. We played covers at first, but we also wrote our own songs from the
beginning. I suppose punk and post-punk and metal influenced us, and we always felt that
writing music and songs was something we should do. When we had enough songs
written we would play those live instead of covers.

7. What can we expect from the band in the rest of 2023 and beyond into 2024?

KEVIN: We have just released an album, REINVENTION, at the end of 2023. This will
be re-released on CD by EPICTRONIC in a few months. We have released a number of
singles from the album, I BELIEVE IN NOISE, CRAWL BACK INSIDE, and
EXISTENCE. You can view the videos for those tracks on YouTube.

MARTIN: Yeah, our latest album is REINVENTION. But we already have new songs,
so we are finishing tracking those, and we intend to mix those and release them sometime
in 2024. They could be released as an EP, or a mini album. I expect our fourth album to
be completed by the end of 2024 with a release date in early 2025.

8. For someone who wants to know more about the band, where can they find you at?
And where can they find your music?

KEVIN: Our main website has all the details about our releases, where to listen to our
music, and links to our videos. Visit www.movment.ie to find out more about Movment.

MARTIN: We post on Social Media from time to time, Twitter (X), Facebook,
Instagram, and TikTok. Details are on our main website. We also release some items on
our own Record Label – Distort The Scene – www.distortthescene.com – but our last 2
albums have been released on Epictronic – www.epictronic.com
Send us an email or message us on Social Media if you have any questions about
Movment.

9. Let’s answer some fun questions, what is your all time favorite band?

KEVIN: It is very hard to pick one, but I’d say it is probably Joy Division. It is definitely
the band that influenced me the most. I run a blog, roughcalmhead.com, where I list the
bands I like and the albums/songs that have made an impression on me, including my
song of the week.

MARTIN: My All Time Favourite band is Iron Maiden, but there are plenty of bands
that run them close, especially Nine Inch Nails.

10. If you could tour with any band and open or have them open for you, who would
you choose?

KEVIN: One band I saw recently is Queens of the Stone Age. An opening slot for them
would be great. Awesome band.

MARTIN: If we could tour with a band, one that is on tour, that would probably be
Smashing Pumpkins at the moment, or maybe Rammstein!

Thanks for chatting with me From the Green Room and look forward to chatting
again in the future.

DE’WAYNE Signs to Fearless + Shares “synthesizer” Video — WATCH

DE'WAYNE Signs to Fearless + Shares "synthesizer" Video

FEARLESS RECORDS is pleased to announce the addition of rock artist DE’WAYNE to the global roster.

DE’WAYNE is an artist who has taken risks his whole life and is now putting that exact energy into the music he creates.

DE’WAYNE is an alternative rock singer from Houston, Texas, who is redefining how it’s done by showcasing a raw and tasteful blend of genres. The music combines elements of rock, pop, and soul, with a mission to show people we shouldn’t live in boxes — and neither should our music. Throughout his nascent career, he has constantly reinvented himself, leaving fans both guessing and thrilled, all the while picking up new ones along the way. The NME called out his ability to be “equally at home belting out throaty howl or indulging in his velvety soulfulness” and praised, “the sense of fun and experimentation that’s crucial to good mainstream-minded rock music is very much alive” that defines DE’WAYNE’s music.

Today, DE’WAYNE has shared the video for “synthesizer.”

Watch it here.

“synthesizer’ is a love letter to my best friend,” DE’WAYNE says. “Sometimes, it’s easier to say these things in a song rather than in person. I was inspired by The Commodores, who wrote ‘Brick House’ about the perfect woman — in their eyes. I wanted to take the word synthesizer and make it SEXY and give it a new meaning. To anyone who listens to this, I hope they find the synthesizer in their life.”

The song has already been added to Spotify’s flagship rock playlist MARROW, which is a mirror and vehicle, and a reflection of what is truly driving today’s rock youth culture, evolution, and limitless trajectory.

From the Green Room Feature Band: Minneriket

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 11 Second

Thanks for taking some time to chat with From the Green Room

  1. What’s the name of the band?

The band is called Minneriket. The name roughly translates into “The realm of memories”. As a concept, Minneriket is this unique realm, transcending the worldly and the profane. The name is nostalgic by nature: not necessarily looking back but mirroring a cyclical weltanschauung reflecting memories as both experiences, hopes, dreams and wishes.

  • Where are you from?

Norway, born and raised.

  • What type of music do you play?

When I launched Minneriket I labeled the music as “Romantic black metal”, challenging the orthodox understanding of what constitutes black metal as a genre, and removing the shackles of genre limitations and audience expectations. I define Romantic black metal as a musical artform that combines and incorporates themes and aesthetics associated with romanticism with the unique atmosphere of Norwegian black metal.

  • Introduce yourselves to the readers and tell us what you do in the band?

My name is Stein Akslen and I am the sole and founding member of Minneriket. I compose, record, write and produce everything. Lately I have been collaborating with several session musicians on the previous and upcoming album, but in general I do everything myself and Minneriket is a one-man band.

  • This is probably a common question but one that most want to know, what musical influences did you have growing up, and what are some now?

Growing up it was a lot of Iron Maiden, Offspring, Bad Religion, Burzum, Mayhem and Gorgoroth. I guess you can still hear the punk-inspiration in my black metal, but I think Minneriket has forged a very unique sound. I like to be influenced by different genres and not limit myself, so I listen to a lot of ambient, classical, hiphop and singer-songwriter music.

  • Have you always been into music? Was it something that just came to you naturally?

For as long as I can remember I have both been listening to and wanting to create music. There really was no other choice. Life is very poor without the gift of music.

  • What can we expect from the band in the rest of 2022 and beyond into 2023?

I’m about to complete the demo recording of the new Minneriket album as we speak. The writing was completed last autumn, and I’ve been mapping up the ideas in the studio since then. I doubt the album will be completed this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to share a single either late this year or early next year. I focus 100% on completing it first. Most of the guitars are done, and drum recording should start soon.

  • For someone who wants to know more about the band, were can they find you at? And were can they find your music?

The best source of information is of course the official Minneriket website at www.minneriket.com. Also be sure to follow on social medias for the latest updates and sneak peaks into new music and general banter. The music is available on all large streaming services, and there are links to both merchandise and music on my website.

  • Let’s answer some fun questions, what is your all time favorite band?

Hard to choose, I enjoy a lot of different music. But I always come back to Burzum, Nick Cave, Bruce Dickinson and The Offspring.

  1. If you could tour with any band and open or have them open for you, who would you choose?

Minneriket is a one-man band and a studio project, touring does not interest me. Let’s say Minneriket could go live if I got Darkthrone as an opening act.

Thanks for chatting with me From the Green Room and look forward to chatting again in the future.
