RIVIUM’S MATTHEW KIICHI HEAFY REVEALS LONG-AWAITED IBARAKI ALBUM RASHOMON
Trivium singer and guitarist Matthew Kiichi Heafy has shared more details about his long-awaited and much-anticipated IBARAKI project.
‘Akumu’ translates to ‘nightmare’ — and with this piece, I encourage the listener to work to find their interpretations of what they feel from the lyrics, music, and the haunting visuals of the music video,” says Kiichi. “I have always been fascinated by Sagazan’s ‘Transfiguration,’ and for years, I have wanted to pay homage to his works with a performance art piece; to finally be able to immerse myself in his style was an intense experience.”
He finishes, “Having Nergal guest in this Ihsahn co-written piece allowed me to combine many of my long-time influences; and when I presented with Nergal of the challenge of translating my lyrics into Polish, it brought the song to another level.”
Last month, Ibaraki offered fans a taste and a tease of the music by sharing the video for “Tamashii No Houkai,” featuring special guest Ihsahn of Emperor fame, who is a core contributor and partner in this project.
Ibaraki were recently selected as one of the most anticipated releases of 2022 by Revolver.

ABOUT IBARAKI:
IBARAKI — the name for a terrifying Japanese demon taken from feudal legend and the new project of Trivium’s Matthew Kiichi Heafy — is more than a solo record. It’s the end-result of a journey of an artist finding his voice. Its inspirations include everything from an adoration for the extremes of black metal to the exuberant storytelling of Gerard Way to the adventuresome worldliness of tragic bon viveur Anthony Bourdain. It’s a reflection of Kiichi’s multifaceted interests as well as a profound affirmation of his Japanese-American identity, and one that led him to confront one of his family’s most tragic moments. Like the artist behind it, there is much to the story of Ibaraki and it began with a timid email to one of black metal’s most revered and influential figures.
Kiichi, a fan of black metal before he even started Trivium, reached out to label reps for Ihsahn of Emperor, and the artist personally responded. He recalls, “It was so cool to get that nod and it inspired me to start checking some of his solo stuff. He’d just released his own solo record and I’d never heard anything like it — saxophones, clean singing, jazz chords. It was incredible to me. He’s this non-stop inventor. So I started writing in a totally different way.”
The exposure to Ihsahn’s solo work that would inspire the gradual craftsmanship that would eventually become Ibaraki. It was also the beginning of a friendship and creative collaboration that would eventually compel Ihsahn to take a leap of his own into a newfound role as producer on the project. While much of the material for Ibaraki was assembled over those months and years — as much a songwriting process as an exchange of ideas between friends — it wasn’t until the pandemic that the space was created and the idea could really flourish.
“It was very loose,” says Ihsahn. “We just had rough demos for a very long time because we’re arguably pretty busy people, but suddenly, everything was cancelled and we had time on our hands for the first time, so it was like, ‘OK, let’s do this.’ We never got to work in the same room; he’d track guitars and send them to me, I’d run them through my studio and send them back. It was a new way of working, but it was like he was there on the other side of the glass. Matt is a very, very positive energetic and passionate music fan — we have similar attitudes to music and open mindedness. We hit it off, and it’s been really rewarding to me.”
The creative interactions between the pair are the result of a deep trust borne of a commonality of their experience. “We both started our respective bands when we were 13,” Ihsahn says. “We got signed when we were 16. That’s young, and in essence we both found our path in life at an early age. We’ve talked a lot about that and our different experiences with that, because it’s like we know nothing else.”
While material was primarily written by Kiichi, Ihsahn engineered and produced and contributed some song structures, plus Trivium drummer Alex Bent and bassist Paolo Gregoletto and guitarist Corey Beaulieu contributed to various tracks. Ihsahn’s wife Heidi even sampled some natural sounds from the forest near their home and his entire family. Additional guests include the aforementioned Way and Behemoth’s Nergal.
Ihsahn also encouraged Kiichi to seek out new avenues for lyrical inspiration, namely his Japanese heritage. While an array of stories have been told via the tattoos on his body, such as the specific ancient Japanese story of gods, goddesses, and monsters from the Shinto religion taught to him by his mother, he began pouring the stories into lyrics.
While the rich mythology and folklore of Japan that would give IBARAKI its unique aesthetics and influences, it also provides the artist with the catalyst to contemplate his own identity and to consider how recent tragedies stateside have highlighted the need for better representation in metal.

MEMPHIS MAY FIRE ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM REMADE IN MISERY
ALBUM OUT JUNE 3 VIA LONGTIME LABEL RISE RECORDS
BAND SHARES VIDEO FOR LATEST SINGLE “MAKE BELIEVE”
Last summer, MEMPHIS MAY FIRE — Matty Mullins (vocals), Kellen McGregor (guitar), Cory Elder (bass), and Jake Garland (drums) — dropped a series of singles, which accumulated nearly 35 million streams combined as fan excitement reached fever-pitch levels. The new material was repeatedly lauded by Revolver, SiriusXM, Loudwire, WSOU, HM, and more. Additionally, each song drop had a philanthropic element and was accompanied by a piece of charity-driven merch that was available at the band’s online store.
Today, the band has announced its seventh album Remade in Misery. The album arrives on June 3 via longtime label Rise Records.
Regarding the process of crafting the new album, Mullins says, “The last nine months have been such a refreshing journey for us. We knew that releasing singles for this long, without any news of an upcoming album, would come with challenges, but we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We’re finally at the point of announcing the entire body of work, and I can genuinely say we are just as excited now as the day the first single dropped.”
He finishes, “Remade in Misery is undoubtedly a new season for MMF. We have truly rediscovered who we are as a band through these songs, and we can’t wait to bring them to life on upcoming tours.”
Memphis May Fire have also shared the video for the new single “Make Believe,” which finds the band flexing its creative muscles with dynamic flourishes, mechanized samples, and bludgeoning breakdowns.
“Our seventh single has arrived and it’s one of my favorite MMF tunes of all time,” shares Mullins. “‘Make Believe’ feels significantly different from the rest of the singles and it offers a whole new flavor that our fans haven’t heard from us before. The song is about enduring so much pain that you feel like you are losing your grip on reality, questioning everything you’ve ever known, and starting to wonder if life is just a simulation. Having had a lot of success with therapy in my own life, I’m a huge advocate for it and I’m excited to announce that we will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the ‘Not the Same’ tee in our merch store to The Refuge Center For Counseling in Franklin, Tennessee.”
The Refuge Center for Counseling offers affordable professional counseling services in order to empower, educate, and support individuals, couples, and families in need.

ABOUT MEMPHIS MAY FIRE:
Memphis May Fire have always made anthems for the broken. The four-piece rock band channels a generation’s worth of angst, frustration, and pain, with a focused blend of gigantic melodic hooks and crushing aggression. Even after topping Billboard‘s Hard Music Albums chart and breaking into radio’s Active Rock Top 20, Memphis May Fire refuse to sacrifice who they are or the people who made them. In fact, Remade in Misery, is the heaviest Memphis May Fire record yet.
A new season unfolds for the band, filled with revitalization and renewal. Stripping things down to their core elements, hearkening back to the days when they created the music their fans most cherish, Memphis May Fire rekindled the spark within to build an inferno of riffs and inspirational words.
The band confronts anxiety, violence, and polarization all over Remade in Misery, strengthened by a foundation of hope and renewal at the heart of the lyrics, which evoke the cathartic bombast of the band’s best-known songs, a return to their roots with the seasoned polish earned through years of touring and making music together.
Memphis May Fire have toured with a vast list of important rock and metal acts that include Killswitch Engage, Sleeping With Sirens, Black Veil Brides, Sevendust, and Atreyu. They’ve co-headlined with Yellowcard and The Devil Wears Prada, regularly appeared on Warped Tour, and at major rock festivals. The band’s previous six albums’ continued relevance is a testament to the energized connectivity between the band and their audience. Their catalog accounts for over 100 million views and millions of streams on fan-favorite songs.
“We want people to have songs they can sit down and listen to, or play in the gym, or driving in their car, and know the world is bigger than it seems,” Mullins says. “To know they exist in a world with other people that understand that it is okay to be imperfect. That someone else knows your hurt.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers will unveil their new album and twelfth full-length offering, Unlimited Love [Warner Records], on April 1, 2022. It notably marks their first recording with guitarist John Frusciante since 2006 and first with producer and longtime collaborator Rick Rubin since 2011. To herald Unlimited Love, the Los Angeles band just shared the first single and music video “Black Summer.”
“Our only goal is to get lost in the music. We (John, Anthony, Chad and Flea) spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make the best album we could. Our antennae attuned to the divine cosmos, we were just so damn grateful for the opportunity to be in a room together, and, once again, try to get better. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely, and arranging the fruit of those jams with great care and purpose. The sounds, rhythms, vibrations, words and melodies had us enrapt.
We yearn to shine a light in the world, to uplift, connect, and bring people together. Each of the songs on our new album UNLIMITED LOVE, is a facet of us, reflecting our view of the universe. This is our life’s mission. We work, focus, and prepare, so that when the biggest wave comes, we are ready to ride it. The ocean has gifted us a mighty wave and this record is the ride that is the sum of our lives. Thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy it.
ROCK OUT MOTHERFUCKERS!” – Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, John Frusciante
Added Frusciante : “When we started writing material, we began by playing old songs by people like Johnny “Guitar” Watson, The Kinks, The New York Dolls, Richard Barrett and others. Ever so gradually, we started bringing in new ideas, and turning jams into songs, and after a couple of months the new stuff was all we were playing. The feeling of effortless fun we had when we were playing songs by other people, stayed with us the whole time we were writing. For me, this record represents our love for, and faith in each other.”
On lead track “Black Summer,” ethereal guitar underlines introspective lyrics as the rhythm unlocks a hypnotic drum groove highlighted by evocative bass. It quietly inhales only to exhale with a massive refrain, “It’s been a long time since I made a new friend, waiting on another black summer to end,” before a guitar solo echoes to the heavens and back. For the music video, the group teamed up with acclaimed director Deborah Chow [Disney+’s The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi]. The result continues a tradition of captivating cinematic visuals—with a twist.
Unlimited Love resumes a three-decade partnership with Rick Rubin [Johnny Cash, Adele]. Their creative collaboration spans legendary albums, including the diamond-selling Blood Sugar Sex Magik [1991], Californication [1999], By The Way [2002], and Stadium Arcadium [2006].
The interplay between the band borders on intergalactic once again—yet elevated to another stratosphere altogether. Unlimited Love represents the united spirit of four individual souls still fearlessly exploring the future of their eternal friendship and musical congregation.

NEW ALBUM SET FOR MAY 6 RELEASE;
BAND REVEALS NEW SINGLE, “THE STEEPLE” TODAY;
BACK FROM THE DEAD AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW
Grammy-winning hard rock band Halestorm today announced Back From The Dead, their fifth studio album due out May 6, 2022, and follow-up to 2018’s Vicious. Back From The Dead is available for fans to pre-save and pre-order now here.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Mastodon, Alice in Chains) with co-production by Scott Stevens (Shinedown, Daughtry, New Years Day), Back From The Dead quickly evolved from songwriting exercises into a matter of survival for the band. Lead singer Lzzy Hale says, “We started writing this album about three months B.C. (Before COVID). Once we went into lockdown and were unable to perform and tour, I fell into a dark place and something of an identity crisis. This album is the story of me carving myself out of that abyss. It is a journey of navigating mental health, debauchery, survival, redemption, rediscovery, and still maintaining faith in humanity.”
Today Halestorm revealed “The Steeple,” the second single from Back From The Dead. “The Steeple” follows the album’s title track, “Back From The Dead,” released last fall. That track marked Halestorm’s sixth #1 at rock radio, and met rave reviews: Rolling Stone called it “a biting, cathartic howler about overcoming obstacles — even death,” and Consequence praised frontwoman Lzzy Hale’s “powerhouse pipes” and lead guitarist Joe Hottinger’s “blistering solo.” Revolver declared it a “raucous, hard-rock rager about staying strong in the face of crushing adversity.”
Halestorm has grown from a childhood dream of siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale into one of the most celebrated rock bands of the last two decades. Halestorm’s music has surpassed a billion streams worldwide. Called a “muscular, adventurous, and especially relevant rock record” by Rolling Stone, Vicious earned the band their second Grammy nomination, for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Uncomfortable,” the band’s fourth #1 at rock radio, and led Loudwire to name Halestorm “Rock Artist of the Decade” in 2019. Fronted by the incomparable Lzzy Hale with drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bass player Josh Smith, Halestorm has earned a reputation as a powerful live music force, headlining sold-out shows and topping festival bills around the world, and sharing the stage with icons including Heaven & Hell, Alice Cooper, and Joan Jett.

The Lacs at Piere’s
Friday, March 18th 2022The Lacs is an American country rap duo that consists of Clay “Uncle Snap” Sharpe and Brian “Rooster” King. At first, the group also featured Brandon Herndon on the three self-released albums on Side Ya Mouth Records
Nita Strauss’ Winter Wasteland Tour made its final 1st leg stop at Angola, Ind.’s Eclectic Room before some much-needed time off after doing 30 shows in 38 days. For those who do not one of the top female guitar players in the world, her stage energy is absolutely off the charts and she’s also one of the guitarists for Alice Cooper’s band.
She started touring with her own band at the age of 14, leaving high school her junior year to pursue music like many other musicians have before her. She was initially known for her work in the all-female tribute Iron Maiden tribute band, The Iron Maidens, but has also performed with several rock bands. Strauss has also been featured in several other ventures involving WWE.
Opening the show was former Soulfly guitarist, Marc Rizzo, who has also released four solo instrumental albums and for this show being 80% instrumental it was a great way to start. Rizzo shredded his solo instrumental off his latest album- Living Shred Volume 1- and shred he did and, as a special treat for the fans in attendance, he played a Sepultura track joined by Strauss drummer and Manager, Josh Villalta.
Black Satellite took the stage next and really showed their NYC flare with lead vocalist Larissa Vale wearing her spiked jacket and big black boots. She showed the style and hearing the vocals that Vale belted out with her classic microphone set the tone for Strauss to finish off the show.
From the moment Strauss stepped onto the stage, the energy was high and she immediately started shredding. Joined by a full band, she would play her instrumental tunes off her Controlled Chaos album, “Our Darkest Hour” and title track “Controlled Chaos” as well as her latest and first track with guest vocals, “Dead Inside” which features David Draiman. Though he was not live in person for the song it was still cool to hear it performed.
NASHVILLE, TN | JANUARY 21, 2022: New Zealand’s very own father-daughter duo HØVDING have released “Caught Beneath the Water,” a cinematic folk song that draws inspiration from the duo’s Nordic roots. Infused with dark melodies and haunting lyrics, the new single allows listeners to become immersed in a world of fantasy where mythical creatures and mysterious magic thrive. When creating the track, vocalist Nika Jane wanted listeners to envision a place where they’d be able to explore the antagonists of a story:
“Whenever I’m writing a HØVDING song like ‘Caught Beneath The Water,’ I picture a mythical scene and I let myself go there in my head. It’s always dark but I love it. It feels comforting to me and I always find a story in there. There’s nothing like that feeling in the real world. I find it fun to dive into the dark and mysterious. In movies growing up I never liked the princes or princesses, I always loved the villains – they were so much more fun.” – Nika Jane of HØVDING
Geoff Duncan, who produces the sounds of HØVDING, shares the important textural elements of the track – and how the opening lyric was vital to capturing the dark, hopeless feeling the song carries.
“With ’Caught Beneath The Water’ we wanted something that felt hopeless, and foreboding, and we wanted to feel like calamity and doom was all around. It needed to feel cold and elemental. ‘Wind on the water, Blood in the well’ is the opening line and we wanted it to set the scene like something very dark was unfolding. And even though it’s a dark and serious song, with this heavy undertone, we actually had so much fun writing it and trying to make it as spooky as possible.” -Geoff Duncan of HØVDING
HØVDING is the musical collaboration between 17 year-old artist Nika Jane and her father, Billboard-charting producer Geoff Duncan. Together they create dark Nordic-inspired cinematic songs inspiring a feeling of longing and nostalgia while embracing the chilling drama of dark myths and legends.
Their music features the haunting vocals of Nika Jane, who loves creating immersive rhythms and layered atmospheres with her voice. Accompanying the vocals are dynamic and lush soundscapes, crafted from organic instruments like acoustic guitars and drums, alongside orchestral strings and bombastic cinematic elements. From fragile intimate moments to gargantuan ensemble performances, HØVDING create a unique and immersive world for the listener to inhabit.
The name HØVDING hails from the name of the ship that took Nika’s ancestors from their homeland in Norway to settle in New Zealand. Both Nika Jane and Geoff were born in New Zealand but are now currently living in Nashville TN, where Nika Jane is high school student, Fellowship-awarded composer, and producer. Geoff is a full time songwriter and producer.
Be sure to stream “Caught Beneath the Water” on all DSPs today.

As announced a few weeks ago with “Matter Drop” and then “Eiram” and following a very successful crowdfunding campaign on Ulule, French melodic metallers (from epic-metal to melodeath passing through post-metal and progressive rock) Second Day finally released their debut full-length album ‘DAWN’, available right now on CD & Digital through Bandcamp and the main legal platforms.
Founded in 2017 in the city of Besançon (France), Second Day started to play music as a cover band (and just for fun) before to draw its own musical path into epic-metal. Then, finding its way, the four-piece produced a first digital single (“Fireflies”, 2019) before to record to an EP called ‘Three Wizards’. After months of hard work, Second Day released its debut full-length album called ‘Dawn’ on January 2022.For fans of: Amorphis, Orphaned Land, Insomnium, Alcest, Omnium Gatherum…
Ice Nine Kills brought their “Hip to be Scared” tour to world famous Piere’s in Fort Wayne Indiana to promote their current album Silver Scream 2, Welcome to Horrorwood to a sold-out show of 2000 plus fans from not only Fort Wayne, but Florida, Kentucky, Ohio and few other places as well, INK has a great following and their hard-core fans sure showed and showed out for them on this night.
Ice Nine Kills is an American heavy metal band from Boston Massachusetts signed to Fearless Records, they are huge horror movie fans and are best known for their horror inspired lyrics, formed in early 2000 by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Swartz. Charnas is the only remaining original member. I have to say that this time seeing Ice Nine Kills I thought they stole the show they absolutely rocked the stage in front of the fans that showed to see them, they always dress in some type of horror movie themed outfits this time was no different, Spencer would come out to start the show and the band would follow soon after they played hits that the fans love “Hip to Be Scared” which featured Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix which was derived from Huey Lewis “Hip to Be Square”. As well as some other fan favorites “The American Nightmare” and “Stabbing in the Dark”.
INK also brought with them great opening support, co-headlining the show was Bad Omens, an American metalcore band from Richmond, Virginia with Noah Sebastian as the front man, I had never heard this band before this show and I have to say they are different for sure but they seem to have a good following as well as fans who came to see Ice Nine Kills got a two for one and were able to take in the Bad Omens set.
Currents also on the bill came out kicking and screaming literally, with some energy to bring the crowd up and prep them for the headliners INK, the lead singer had some pipes able to belt out the screaming lyrics, but that’s what the fans want at a metal show and for sure is what they got. The first band that opened the show Fame on Fire yet another band that I had not heard of but when they started their set I was impressed they reminded me a little bit like Linkin Park mixed with some From Ashes to New two of my favorite bands so I was for sure intrigued and they had some good covers with a twist on them “Without Me” originally a Halsey track, Fame on fire put a good rock twist on it and I actually like both versions of this song. They closed the set with a cover of “Numb” from the great band named Linkin Park which really hit the fans as they felt the energy, and all knew that somewhere above Chester was looking down smiling.
Overall, it was a great night of some head banging, crowd participation metal music, started with Fame on Fire and capped off with Ice Nine Kills, if you have not had a chance to see INK live and in person you are missing out, check them out and I think you will become instant fans. Ice Nine Kills will be going on tour again with Motionless In White and Black Veil Brides on the Trinity of Terror Tour, check out any of those bands websites or social media sites for stops in a city near you.
