Thanks for taking some time to chat with From the Green Room
- What’s the name of the band?
Otherworldly Entity
- Where are you from?
Syracuse, NY
- What type of music do you play?
JH: numetal, alt rock, anything we can do with loud emotion
ZG: We play an eclectic mix of Rock, Pop and Numetal
SW: In the realm of alternative numetal
- Introduce yourselves to the readers and tell us what you do in the band?
JH: I’m John Harris and I’m the singer and guitarist of Otherworldly Entity
ZG: My name is Zlatko. I co-founded the band with John. I play guitar in the band, and I sing.
SW: My name is Shawn Washer and I play the Drums for Otherworldly Entity.
- This is probably a common question but one that most want to know, what musical influences did you have growing up, and what are some now?
JH: Growing up, I was all over the place musically. I loved Savage Garden, but I also listened to a lot of R&B and rap. Busta Rhymes is amazing. But I think when I saw Queen of the Dammed as a young teen, that’s when I started down this rock road. Then I discovered bands like Korn, Linkin Park, Cold, and that’s how I ended up here.
ZG: Growing up I listened to pop and rock from Bosnia, Croatia and other European countries. I only started listening to English music when I moved to the United States. This is where I discovered prog rock and bands like Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, as well as heavy bands like Pantera, Dope, Metallica, Slipknot, Korn etc. Those are my biggest musical influences today.
SW: Growing up it was Creed, Linkin Park and Parkway Drive. Currently my main influences are of Fit for A King, Currents, Motionless in, White and Born of Osiris.
- Have you always been into music? Was it something that just came to you naturally?
JH: I’ve always loved music. I started playing piano when I was 8. But it does not come naturally to me. It has taken A LOT of work. Around the age of 10 I started taking guitar lessons from an amazing musician named Mike VanCott. I am grateful every day for the patience he had for me 25 years ago.
ZG: Yes, I wanted to make music before I ever touched an instrument. I remember making drums out of pots and pans and learning how to sing while hiking through the hills of Bosnia. I got pretty good at polyphonic throat singing and whistling.
SW: I’ve always been into music. My Mother Kathleen Raney was really into Ozzy Osborne, Metallica and Meatloaf growing up and I picked up percussion at 9 years old so iv have a natural drive for music. She currently loves our band and found a love for the band All That Remains
- What can we expect from the band in the rest of 2022 and beyond into 2023?
JH: Ever since we picked up Shawn as our drummer, it’s just been non-stop shows and writing, which I absolutely love. He was really a missing puzzle piece for us. So, expect more shows all over the place, but especially expect new music. Our new single SIN comes out on September 30
ZG: We will continue to produce interesting, honest and engaging music. Our new single is being released at the end of September, and we are in the process of writing and recording more material. We have a double album in mind that will also feature acoustic music. We don’t really know for sure what will happen tomorrow, but we are driven to succeed.
SW: New music! As the newest member of Otherworldly Entity taking over the drums position, I come from a heavier background, so I plan to bringing a heavier atmosphere to our sound!
- For someone who wants to know more about the band, were can they find you at? And were can they find your music?
JH: Our website has everything. Links, merch, pictures, videos. But of course, follow us on social media and stream us on every major platform. But the best thing anyone can do is come to a show and meet us. We love meeting new people
ZG: They can find us on our website: www.otherworldlyentity.com, and everywhere you get your music from.
SW: We are on all music streaming platforms as well as music videos on YouTube. We also have a website www.otherworldlyentity.com where you can find our music, show updates, where to buy tickets to upcoming shows near you, merch, action and promotional photos and everything else.
- Let’s answer some fun questions, what is your all-time favorite band?
JH: It’s a tie between Cold and Blue October
ZG: I don’t know if i have a favorite band, but a big mark was left on my young brain by a band known as Zabranjeno Pusenje – pure rock from the Balkans. I have a soft spot in my heart for ex-Yugoslavia bands from the pre-war era. English music – my favorite band is probably Pink Floyd
SW: Fit for a king. I fell in love with their Creation/Destruction album, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
- If you could tour with any band and open or have them open for you, who would you choose?
JH: I would love to tour with either Infected Rain, September Mourning, or Psyclon Nine. We’ve played with all three of those bands and had such a fun time with each of them. More importantly, we were so inspired by them. I would really love to do a tour with all of them.
ZG: I would love to tour with the bands like Cold, Infected Rain and September Mourning – we’ve opened for them before, and they are just pure professionals.
SW: I’d love to tour with everyone. It’s hard to just narrow it down to one band. Right now, I’d say Infected Rain
